In the Commonwealth of Independent States which grew out of the former Soviet Union, as in the history and development of the worldwide insurance industry, modern insurance history began with Marine Insurance. Our activities include but are not limited to the following categories of marine survey:

Hull Surveys

In addition to damage surveys primarily connected with matters of insurance, EUROGAL conducts surveys on behalf of owners' and charterers' operational interests such as on/off-hire, condition and suitability surveys, pre entry, for Hull & Machinery and P&I insurers as well as evaluations for prospective buyers and sellers.

  Loss Prevention

Just who is watching your cargo ?
There was a time, in the very early days of EUROGAL's operations when underwriters talked about Loss Prevention, what they really meant was physically making sure that the cargo actually arrived at its final destination without being raided, robbed, hijacked and heisted en route.
EUROGAL's activities in this field were almost a total re-enactment of the Wells Fargo legend and involved literally "riding shotgun" on truck convoys or goods trains from the port of discharge to destinations often well into the remote hinterlands of this vast continent. Despite the appalling statistics which prevailed at that time, EUROGAL 's record was better than that of most our Wild West predecessors, and we actually never lost a cargo, although our guards were called upon, from time to time, to take up arms and defend the cargo interests in every sense of the word !

EUROGAL's loss prevention experts have long since laid down their arms, but they are still very much involved in ensuring that cargoes arrive safe and sound. Much attention is paid to proper, professional packing and containerisation, especially when considering very long overland journeys often involving many railcar shunting operations, or alternatively hundreds of kilometres by platform truck over roads better suited to rally competitions, with the enormous forces exerted on cargo by the multiple joltings, vibration and impacts sustained. Technical escort and support for perishable cargo in refrigerated or controlled temperature trucks or containers is another example of EUROGAL's innovation in this field.
And when cargo crime became less violent and more sophisticated, with imposters meeting truck drivers and presenting forged documents, EUROGAL was a pioneer in introducing the "Safe Haven" for trucks arriving in the Moscow region, providing secure and guarded parking lots and supervised delivery of cargo to bona fide receivers.
Other aspects of loss prevention are included in the Cargo Supervision procedures involving inspection, testing and verification as well as close supervision during handling and storage operations.

  Quantity/Quality Inspections

Dry Bulk, Liquid Bulk,
Commodity Control
Today's importers and exporters, merchants and traders need fast and efficient services to support contracts finalised in real time using electronic handshakes. Our cargo supervision services frequently start at the manufacturers' plant with verification of goods conformity to specifications for quality and quantity, continuing through the stages of packing and/or containerisation and overland transport to the port of loading, followed by surveillance during handling operations, storage, loading and stowage and securing on the carrying vessel.

Often the service does not end with departure of the vessel, and it is EUROGAL's local representative at the port of discharge who meets the vessel, supervising the discharge and delivery of the cargo to final destination. Similar services are available for imported cargo supervision of discharge and inland transport, and supervision of container unstuffing at final destination. The cargo may be raw materials, finished or semi-finished goods, automobiles, dry or liquid bulk commodities, but the principles are the same high level of efficient inspection, consulting and rapid reporting which allow for the smooth operation of international business transactions to meet the immediacy of today's world and the demands of electronic information flow. Commodity control, supervision, inspection and testing services is respect of bulk cargoes such as grain and feedstuffs, sugar, cement, dry chemicals, iron and steel, hydrocarbons - crude and refined oil, petroleum products, liquid chemicals and edible oils are amongst EUROGAL 's areas of special expertise. Services in respect of GAFTA & FOSFA contracts are available to all international traders and brokers, bankers, government and non-governmental organisations.
